Day114, Manaus Amazonia

Leaving the tranquil serene jungle lodge to head back to the city to see the meeting of the rivers, swim with the pink dolphins, fish and visit the Tayuka village. Sad to say goodbye to the new friends we have made, guides and locals. what an icredible part of the world that we are so fortunate to see.

The meeting of the rivers is the confluence between the dark Rio Negro and the pale sandy-colored Amazon River or Rio Solimôes, as the upper section of the Amazon is known in Brazil upriver of this confluence. For 6 km the two rivers’ waters run side by side without mixing. Two major reasons for it not mixing are the difference in water temperature( Rio Negro is 5-6 degrees warmer) and the current( Rio Negro is slower and smoother). Our guide had us put our hands in the river to feel the immediate difference when the boat moved from one side to the other (so cool!). After several kilometers, the two rivers eventually converge thanks to a blast of fast-moving whitewater, and become part of the Lower Amazon River. We learnt so much, hope you are too!!
