Day 112, Manaus

5 am sunrise on the Amazon, perfect stillness on the water only the sounds of cicadas and birds. Amazing part of the world still untouched by the outside. For our afternoon tour we visited an local community (Caboclo)and school that the hotel supports by paying a teacher and the school. There are 11 kids from 3 villages that come by canoe for class 7-11 everyday. A young girl from São Paulo decided she would help for 2 years, as many times teachers are paid but don’t show up to teach!!!we are taught how they live off the land, use medicinal herbs, hunt and climb trees to collect the acai berries, the boys even tried to climb😀 later in the evening we had an evening walk into the jungle to see what we can see and hear😳 we saw a Goliath tarantula, leech( so yuk), scorpions and a snake eating a frog. We also learnt that the sap from the poroko tree hardens and is used as torch lights for the Indians at night.uma
