Day 77-78 Bariloche and Buenos Aires,Argentina

Sad to leave Bariloche the Switzerland of South America. Headed to the capital Buenos Aires ( meaning fair wind) the birthplace of tango. Buenos Aires was founded twice first by Pedro de Mendoza in 1536 and named it Santa Maria de Los Buenos Aires,or holy Mary of the fair winds, a figure revered by sailors at the time. Mendoza was forced to flee and in 1580, Juan de Garay arrived from Spain  and established a permanent settlement, naming it cuidad de la santisima Trinidad y puerto de Santa Maria de Buenos Aires😳 thankfully it was shortened in the 17th century.

Fun facts are: Citizens of Buenos Aires are known as portenos( anyone from a port city). Avenida 9 de Julio is the widest avenue in the world. At 12 lanes and 460 feet wide. The underground is the oldest subway system in Latin America. The Number one polo team in the world is from Argentina and most use mallets ( known as tacos) made by Hector Zapoala, who runs a small factory in Buenos Aires.
