The great blue hole is a giant sinkhole of the coast of Belize. It is near the center of Lighthouse reef, a small atol 70 miles from Belize city. It’s a world heritage site (UNESCO). Circular in shape, its over 410ft deep and 1000ft wide. The sinkhole originally formed as a limestone cave during the last glacial period!! Had to show you a picture from my guide book of how amazing it looks, you need an Ariel picture to do it justice! Marine life around the coral was amazing with color and sea life but in the center it was dense clear water that went down as far as the eye could see. π³![]()
