Day 34, Ambergris Caye, Belize.

Ambergris Caye is the largest island in Belize. The history goes back to the days of the Mayans. The descendants from Mexico makes up most of the island population today. The economy of the island was once dependent on the coconut industry followed by the fishing industry but now it depends on tourism. The Belize barrier reef reserve system lies about half a mile off the windward Side of the island. It is the longest barrier in the western hemisphere and second longest in the world. Close by are the Blue Hole, Shark Alley and Ho Chan marine reserve. Uma
